In the case of the graphic designer Ronel Wasserman and her architect husband Ludwig Hansen’s Parktown home, the Raw Studios team was convinced that since so much of the space was already filled with their wooden lockers, the central island simply had to fit in with the theme.

The kitchen is the central room in the renovated home, with the original parquet floors adding extra warmth to the satiny plywood island and the Raw kitchen locker cupboards made of the birch plywood imported from Finland. The nearby scullery sorts out the messy stuff and the oasis of culinary calm becomes the centre of the creative family’s day. Space for art, cookbooks and pots gives the kitchen character and the feel of a living and cooking space.
