If you find yourself surrounded by good people, well-brewed coffee, and cool retro holiday pics, chances are you’re at one of Tribeca Coffee’s three stunning buildings in Centurion, Pretoria. Great coffee, good food and the best memories of places and times gone by is the feeling that hits you when you walk into the offices and look around at the photography of bygone holidays, retro cars and days in the sun… It all contributes to a feel-good positive outlook that this company is well known for. That said, it doesn’t mean that the workspaces at Tribeca are light-duty. The people here work hard at the brand and they need hardworking workstations, shelving, storage and lab furniture which we gladly provide as they understand and seek the economic value of the Raw aesthetic built into all of our products.
We have been working with Tribeca since they moved into their first building many years ago (see more projects here) and since then they found ways to include Raw Studios in many of their ventures, including retail venues and mobile coffee stations.
From stained coloured doors that complement their style to functional storage which keeps all the admin in place, Tribeca continues to curate their workspaces and combined with good coffee, and a laid-back atmosphere it has been an interesting and winning formula.

Holiday culture anyone?
It’s been no secret that we have been working with the University of Pretoria on various projects over the past years. What you maybe do not know is that we don’t only supply furniture but exhibition walls as well.
Back in 2017 Mathews and Associates Architects approached Raw Studios to develop an exhibition system for the exciting new Javett Art Centre at the University of Pretoria. The brief was music to our ears and a chance to challenge ourselves. In the end, we in collaboration with Journeyman Collective designed and manufactured a walling system, which is suitable for the exquisite Art Centre but also true to our values. Wallspace™ is a sleek and minimalistic modular wall that is easy to use, move, adapt and a simple solution for most exhibitions and even office spaces.
The collaboration with Javett and the development of Wallspace™ left us feeling inspired, we mean, our white backdrop walls are being used to showcase some of South Africa’s most talented artists. The richness of the artworks’ colours contrasting with the white walls captures your imagination and takes you to a different world, outside of the busy Jacaranda City.
The Javett Art Centre is a tranquil space and a perfect destination to add to your to-do list if you are staying at home this holiday. Get some peace of mind and enrich your holiday with some of the best of local art and culture.
Getting your Zen on.
Stilts™ has found its way out of the city into a short-stay prefab living unit, Zenkaya, spending every day with the wind singing in the trees, the grass below, and some necessary peace and quiet.
Located at the Greenhouse Café at Rosemary Hill farm, Zenkaya is a modular holiday accommodation unit kitted out with our Stilts™ range.
The minimal fixing of Stilts™ creates a simple, uncluttered, and modern interior allowing you to stay focused on what’s really important… resetting your zen of course.
The wrapped floor to ceiling height glass panels invite in all of nature which surrounds you, ensuring you get the well-deserved rest and recovery from a loooong 2019.
Keep an eye out for Visi’s December edition for more on the Zenkaya.
“They know best” they say.
Who are “they”?
We all know “they”… It’s that “guy” who always knows all the facts about Cape Town’s weather, the best diet to follow, the latest assets to invest in or what Sally really did last December.
That clears it up right? Yeah, umm, not really.
Well, that is exactly why we decided to chat to They and clear up the confusion once and for all.
Turns out the real They is a company that focuses on directing music videos, shorts and ads for companies, people and artists who appreciate great story telling.
Not having met They before we were quite curious of how a company like theirs would operate. When master storytellers, Alan and Darren, approached us just before they relocated office, Alan mentioned They (pun intended) were looking for a solution that would “cancel out the bad side of an open plan layout, still remain inviting but offer the focused privacy needed for many of their tasks”. We didn’t hesitate to assist in the project, because we knew we were working with likeminded guys who were ready to change things a little.
Wall Space™, along with our Epik™ furniture, were the solutions that jumped to mind that ticked all the boxes of their new workplace requirements.
Take a look at the video below to get some more insight into the real They and how Raw ensured their new offices balance and boost their everyday tasks.
Designing for projects means starting from scratch and giving so much more than defined in the brief: It’s Time for Stilts™, part 2…
It’s been more than a year since we introduced you to how Raw applies design supply services to large projects, so we thought it’s time we give you a refresher of what’s been unfolding at the University Pretoria / Earthworld Architects’ Future Africa Institute project and more specifically our Stilts system.
Still, remember the first sneak-peak snapshots we sprinkled into your inbox? (Missed it? Don’t stress, see our first steps here.) A lot has happened since then! Where to begin?
Well… Not too long after the sneak peek we took Stilts™ out for a field trip, just to see what she’d look like outside her comfort zone. The feedback was immense, autographs were asked, cameras were flashing, we even had to calm the crowds down. Because you see… Even though she made a great first impression, this was only the start of the Stilts™ journey.
Fast forward to the present day. The Future Africa Institute construction is well underway and completion on the project is drawing ever closer. Soon after the construction dust settles, Africa’s next generation of scientists, researchers and bright minds will be working their magic from these new study headquarters.
Words from the client: Raw not only delivered on all the requirements of the brief but the resulting system turned out easy to install and super useful as well as quirky and elegant. Stilts has, to a large extent, defined the look and feel of the residential interiors on this project.
