Designing for projects means starting from scratch and giving so much more than defined in the brief: It’s Time for Stilts™, part 2…

It’s been more than a year since we introduced you to how Raw applies design supply services to large projects, so we thought it’s time we give you a refresher of what’s been unfolding at the University Pretoria / Earthworld Architects’ Future Africa Institute project and more specifically our Stilts system.

RAW TUKS Stilts Future Africa Institute

Still, remember the first sneak-peak snapshots we sprinkled into your inbox? (Missed it? Don’t stress, see our first steps here.) A lot has happened since then! Where to begin?

Well… Not too long after the sneak peek we took Stilts™ out for a field trip, just to see what she’d look like outside her comfort zone. The feedback was immense, autographs were asked, cameras were flashing, we even had to calm the crowds down. Because you see… Even though she made a great first impression, this was only the start of the Stilts™ journey.

Fast forward to the present day. The Future Africa Institute construction is well underway and completion on the project is drawing ever closer. Soon after the construction dust settles, Africa’s next generation of scientists, researchers and bright minds will be working their magic from these new study headquarters.

Words from the client: Raw not only delivered on all the requirements of the brief but the resulting system turned out easy to install and super useful as well as quirky and elegant. Stilts has, to a large extent, defined the look and feel of the residential interiors on this project.

Greenhouse

Despite all the project specific design/supply happening in the background, our Epik workspace range is proving itself as adaptable and timeless as ever with more and more businesses seeing value in a well-considered workplace.

A client recently approached us, stating that “Our workspace had become a grey, muted and uninventive environment, with staff members confined to their desks, silently completing one task after the next and shying away from others behind their cubicles”.

When Raw was asked to help, we knew immediately that beyond the essential focus work areas, the office needed agile spaces, spaces which encourage change and enable new ways of working without restrictions. Here’s the low down of how we transformed their offices:

Firstly, places where employees could meet up and merge ideas were introduced to break outdated rows of tables. We added a standpoint to the mix to let innovation sprout by enabling co-creation moments.

Then, we added pause areas to help change the rhythm of the workplace and offer a moment to refuel.

Also, to get employees out of their seats, to come together and brainstorm, a hub was added making collaborations and presentations easier.

A month down the line, we chatted to the client about their new workspace, and this time their tune had changed: ”Raw Studios equipped us with the tools needed to draw people out to engage in impromptu interactions, to share inspiration and get ideas flowing freely. It was an innovation game-changer for us”.

Fresh New Project

Raw Studios products chosen on Cape Town training centres for FNB.

First National Bank maintains high standards when it comes to training their staff so why should it be any different when it comes to furnishing and beautifying their workspaces. From the first interface with the training centre at reception to within the deep inner workings of the training spaces Raw Studios had been selected to bring a unique look and feel to these interiors.

We have a crew in Cape Town to install this project and the images here are fresh from our foreman just to show how great it’s starting to look.

Birth of a new kind of awesome… it’s Stilts™

So you’ve watched the teaser video, above, right? Good, now let’s get you up to speed with the rest of the story.

In our last blog newsletter we gave a little taste of a current project for the University of Pretoria , which sparked the development of a brand new furniture range. (Didn’t read it? Find out more by clicking on this link: …).

The Stilts Range.

RAW Studios Stilts

Is a new living- centred system that can adapt to our ever changing environments, be it at home or in the workspace. This range can easily be customized to suit not only your needs but also your wants.

It’s just too exciting to keep it to ourselves! So, we’re going to shed some light on the range as we go along.

These images are only the tip of the iceberg of what The Stilts can do. And to be honest, it’s kind of crazy how we just keep discovering new possibilities and solutions within this range. We’re starting to wonder if it even has limits…

We’re looking forward to seeing where the Stilt’s road takes us and will keep you updated on developments. Give us a shout and let us know what you think.

The countdown has started… The world is coming to Africa.

Imagine an existing space where human, space and object are intertwined, where interaction is a core aspect of creating synergy between humans and their environment.

Future Africa Institute site construction

Well, stop imagining because this concept is already in the making at the Future Africa Institute, a campus for international students aimed at creating a holistic and interactive environment. Earthworld Architects’design addresses the often disconnectedness formed in the built environment by making the user an integral part of the context. The design is human centred, and creates a sense of belonging for the user.

Where does RAW fit into the picture you ask?

Earthworld Architects and the University of Pretoria, brought us on board to apply our unique furniture design to the new thinking that Future Africa Institute encompasses.

With such an exciting project, we didn’t hesitate to take on the challenge.

Staying true to modular systems, we’re approaching this range from a different perspective, and giving a fresh take on everyday furniture and spaces while pushing our core design ideas of considered simplicity, efficiency in production and of course… lovability. The range will be easy to assemble, install and move as it uses minimum permanent fixing.

RAW is ready to go all out with this range and explore all the possibilities on offer. Stay tuned for details early 2017. In the meantime, here are a few snapshots of what we’ve been up to for this project:
