If you find yourself surrounded by good people, well-brewed coffee, and cool retro holiday pics, chances are you’re at one of Tribeca Coffee’s three stunning buildings in Centurion, Pretoria. Great coffee, good food and the best memories of places and times gone by is the feeling that hits you when you walk into the offices and look around at the photography of bygone holidays, retro cars and days in the sun… It all contributes to a feel-good positive outlook that this company is well known for. That said, it doesn’t mean that the workspaces at Tribeca are light-duty. The people here work hard at the brand and they need hardworking workstations, shelving, storage and lab furniture which we gladly provide as they understand and seek the economic value of the Raw aesthetic built into all of our products. We have been working with Tribeca since they moved into their first building many years ago (see more projects here) and since then they found ways to include Raw Studios in many of their ventures, including retail venues and mobile coffee stations. From stained coloured doors that complement their style to functional storage which keeps all the admin in place, Tribeca continues to curate their workspaces and combined with good coffee, and a laid-back atmosphere it has been an interesting and winning formula.
One of our core missions at Raw Studios is to improve the workplace of today, and to make corporate industries understand the need for healthier, considered and quality-centred spaces in an office.
This mission faces uphill battles some days and victories on others, but the process is all the more worthwhile when we come across like minded organisations investigating the notion of future workspace and how we all need to alter our thinking and change the workplace to ensure positive experiences.
Two of those organisations are; local Integrative Consulting and international ARUP, who emphasise the importance on how the workplace needs to evolve to ensure beneficial outcomes for the employee, employer, and stakeholders.

When you think and design differently from other companies you initially meet with a lot of resistance and disbelief especially in something as formal as the workspace industry, after all humans are creatures that prefer to follow, to copy and to play it safe. At RAW we have never done any of those things and it has been an interesting, but often hard journey, of sticking to our mission so to speak.
At 100% Design Johannesburg this year we have been asked to feature our idea of the way to work and how workspaces can be activated, energised and equipped for meaningful work. We have happily obliged by developing some new additions to our Epik range to illustrate how effective work will be done in the future and since workplaces are everything but static.
We also have some “actual” work happening on the exhibition stand but to see more you need to visit! Read more…
Visit us at stand no. C07 from 9 to 13 August 2017 and leave your preconceptions at the door… or entrance… or whatever, just get to our stand!
At the end of the day, if we humans are left to tick time, crunching numbers, crouching over our worktops, desktops and laptops we lose perspective, we stagnate growth, we struggle to get out of our familiar territories to discover new and better solutions, we stop constructively analysing and acting on how we can improve our lives and other’s. At RAW Studios we aim to put a stop to this endless fog fluttered existence.
Just take a second out of your crazy day and let this sink in:
Humans can be dreamers, do-ers, thinkers, tinkerers, leaders, followers, talkers, silent, calculators, writers, strategists, creators, designers, problem solvers, ponderers, fixers, breakers, makers or pencil pushers.
Human beings are alive, conscious and sensitive to their surroundings. Their environment influences their concentration, productivity and well-being.
Human beings are the only planet dwellers who are able to consciously think, choose and imagine and create.
Human beings are the only planet dwellers who are able to change their environment.
And with all that ‘awesomeness’ human beings spend an average of 8 hours a day in their work environment.
8 hours to be in a fog fluttered existence? No, that’s where we come in, we’re taking you back to the awesomeness that you are, so that those 8 hours are an extension of awesomeness not, a fogged up black hole to speed through.
Every change starts with imagining something to be different, better than it is.
At RAW we take the responsibility of being able to change our work environments very seriously. From grey, fog fluttered to colourful. From mundane to magnificent. From boring to bright. From useless to user-friendly. From rickety and disposable to strong and durable.
If we make changes, we make sure those changes are improvements, generously and continuously imagined by us to make work and life better.
Successful modern offices are all about collaboration and creative input, which is why 100% Design South Africa is proud to announce that it will be collaborating with Gauteng-based Raw Studios for the 2017 100% Office feature – one of the key curated events at the show.
In previous years, 100% Office has showcased the talents of leading interior designer Liam Mooney (2015) and In-house Design Studio (2016). This year, the ever-innovative Raw Studios will present inspiring modular office furniture systems that are locally designed and manufactured from sustainably sourced timber.
“Raw Studios are no strangers to the 100% Design landscape,” says the show’s Creative Director, Laurence Brick of Platform Creative Agency. “Raw Studio is not only a past exhibitor, but the studio created the official media lounge last year. Because Raw’s functional desking was so well received in this space, we decided to extend the invitation to the studio to be the centre of attention in the office arena. The 100% Office display will be surrounded the Inspired Workspace sector, comprising other leading office exhibitors, all showcasing the latest office trends and designs.”
Together, 100% Office and Inspired Workspace make for a trade-focused zone that will satisfy corporate and commercial design needs. It’s all about encapsulating the latest directions in contemporary office furniture design, from flooring, surface design, sound-proofing, co-working spatial layouts, state-of-the-art seating, and partitioning and height-adjustable desking.
According to Raw Studio’s Creative Director Peet van Straaten: “The new collaborative, connected workplace is not only about redefining our mindset about what furniture we need and how our space can be reconfigured to be effective. It also requires a new appraisal of how people and technology interact for the benefit of employer and employee. The technology revolution offers new potential that will require all of us to embrace flexibility to change how we work and collaborate.”
After more than a decade of research into office needs, Raw Studios has engineered an office system that is ergonomic, affordable and practical, but also beautifully designed.
“The system addresses the more traditional functions and layouts present in office environments as well as cutting-edge thinking around mobile and highly connected modern office environments,” Van Straaten explains. “This includes hot-desking and the very necessary flexible-use space between and around traditional workspaces.”
Alongside 100% Office, visitors can engage with a host of office-oriented companies that make up the Inspired Workspace section of the hall, including Upstart Office, Krost and GXA Office Furniture Solutions. Also on view are desking and seating solutions from Ergoform, and crafted commercial carpeting from Monn.
100% Design South Africa, encompassing 100% Office, will take place from 9 – 13 August 2017 at Gallagher Convention Centre in Gauteng.
